Is Financial Freedom so difficult? I don’t believe so. I have found myself over the last 6 weeks contemplating why people seem to give up on their dreams, why they just stop SHOWING up. Now, my mentor Jim Rohn would say, “I wouldn’t sign up for that class.” He would say Some Will, Some Won’t, So What and Next. Yes, it’s true – however that hasn’t stopped me from at least exploring the why.
And here is what I’ve come up with – Our WORD. Dr Buckminster Fuller said Words are the most powerful leverage for Human Beings. The problem is the leverage can be used, abused or feared.
What do you say to yourself when you look in the mirror? Yes, the power of words also include the words we say quietly to ourselves – in fact, it is this that creates the reality of your world.
The Bible says “and the word became flesh”. This is very important. Whatever words you say (especially to yourself), they become real – Flesh.
So, what are the words that stop people from going for their dreams? I believe it is these:
FAITH. Do you believe in yourself or do you Trust in yourself? There is a big difference. There are plenty of people who believe in God, or a higher power, BUT how many people TRUST their life to God. There is a whole level of difference in ridding ourselves of fear because we trust in ourselves that we can make it work. A similarly powerful word to highlight this is SELF-CONFIDENCE. Are you confident in yourself?
Now the other important word is DISCIPLINE. A lot of people are not disciplined enough to remain committed. If you cannot commit, then we start to lose CONFIDENCE in ourselves because we are not getting a result. However, if we are disciplined then we will get a better result. The better result will enhance our Self-Confidence which makes it easier to get constantly improving results and easier to be disciplined. It’s either a wonderful cycle or a vicious cycle – it’s our choice.
Recently, I signed up for an intense one year coaching with Robert Kiyosaki of Rich Dad Coaching. During my homework, I noted something he wrote in his best selling book Rich Dad Poor Dad -
“When I speak to adults who want to earn more money, I always recommend the same thing. I suggest taking a long term view of their life. Instead of simply working for the money and security, which I admit are important, I suggest they take a second job that will teach them a second skill. Often I recommend joining a network marketing company if they want to learn sales skills. Some of these companies have excellent training programs that help people get over their fear of failure and rejection, which are the main reasons people are unsuccessful. Education is more valuable than money in the long run.
When I offer this suggestion, I often hear in response, “Oh that is too much hassle,” or “I only do what I’m interested in.”
To the statement of “It’s too much of a hassle,” I ask, “So you would rather work all your life giving a portion of all you earn to the government?” To the other statement – “I only do what I’m interested in” – I say, “I’m not interested in going to the gym, but I go because I want to feel better and live longer.”
